The objectives of the CRTPB, which has 22 sponsors, are to formulate sound engineering principles and to organize technical facts which will assist in the development of the Canadian radio industry and radio services of the nation in accordance with the public interest. The activi¬ ties of the Board are restricted to engineering considerations and all sponsors must be non¬ profit associations, bodies or societies which have an important interest in radio and allied fields.
One of the objectives of the Board is to advise government, industry and the people of its find¬ ings and recommendations. In actual practice the Board has acted in an advisory capacity to the Canadian Government in the matter of frequency allocations.
The organization of the Planning Board includes the Main Board made up of the contributing' sponsor delegates and the chairmen of the Plan¬ ning Board's seven technical committees: Broad¬ cast Committee; Land Fixed & Mobile Committee; Maritime Committee; Radio Relay Committee; Railway, Highway & Transit Utilities Committee; and Television Committee.

PARLIAMENT’S share of expendi¬ tures of the Canadian Broadcast¬ ing Corp. in 1962, a total of $108,365,882 for all domestic TV and radio operations, reached a record high of $70,252,273, an increase of $2,403,465 over the previous fiscal year, it was shown recently in the annual report, which deals with the year ending March 31, 1963. The rise in expendi¬ tures, held down by the mid-1962 aus¬ terity cuts, amounted to $754,728.
Commercial revenues fell during the year by a further $1,917,258, after a $4,000,000 drop the year before, caused mainly by the TV advertising squeeze from the new private stations and their new network. However, J. Al¬ phonse Ouimet, CBC president, said in the report that "There is very indi¬ cation that the trend of decreasing revenues has been materially ar¬ rested."
