July 9, 1932 DENY LONG ISLAND TELEVISION The application of Eadio Engineering Laboratories, Long Island City, New York, was denied by the Commission this week, sustaining the findings of Examiner Pratt (Report No. 369). The applicant had sought authority to use the television channel between 23,000 and 60,000 kc with power of 250 watts. Finding that the applicant had failed to establish public interest, convenience and necessity would be served by the granting of the request, the Commission said: •'Satisfactory showing is not made that applicant has competent technical resources available to insure an efficient program of research; it does not appear that applicant has engaged in any past experiments in the visual broadcasting field and sufficient showing is not me.de of a definite plan of proposed research and experimen¬ tation to warrant a finding that the granting of this application would result in any advancement or development in the visual broadcasting art." NEW MARYLAND STATION AUTHORIZED The Commission this week granted the application for a new broadcast station at Hagerstown, Maryland, filed by A. V, Tidmore with daytime operation on 1210 kc and 100 watts power. This action sustained the recommendation of Examiner Yost (Report No. 366.) In its conclusions, the Commission found the granting of this application would provide broadcast service to Hagerstown during that period when reception from any other source is unsatisfactory and further that the operation of this station would not be expected to result in any objectionable interference to other stations. It was also held the applicant is qualified financially as well as technically to operate the proposed station. KRMD LICENSE RENEWED The Commission issued a renewal license for the regular period this week to Station KRMD, Shreveport, Louisiana, and thereby sustained the recommendation of Examiner Yost in Report No, 373, The station had been ordered to file application f-r renewal, since a new applicant had requested its facilities. At the hearing the party seeking the KRMD assignment did not appear and the Examiner found under these circumstances the Shreveport license should be renewed.
