44. EXT. TRAIL— NEAR TREE
Horse on. Phil come.s on. unties his horse, looks after Mary, disappointedly; mounts and rides out.
My reader will observe that we have introduced a bit of "business" here that was not in the synopsis. This building-up Pro cess is necessary, and here is where the continuity writers' imagination is called into play. We have figured out a cute little way of bringing our hero and heroine together and got very good comedy, too, which is very necessary. Incidentally, we have also built up suspense again. The audience going to immediately become very much interested in whether or not Phil and Mary meet again. They will share Phil's disappointment when Mary runs away without " ven giving him her name. In the meanlime, there is the question of whether or not Phil is the counterfeiter.
With the title, "('owboys are superstitious, etc.," we cover the necessary time for Phil to get the cat out of the tree, which would take a lot of footage and at the same time establish the fact that he is greatly im))re3sed with Mary. There is also comedy in the title.
The story starts moving rapidly in the next sequence, in which the melodram;i begins.
