Page Four ''The Digest of the Motion Picture Industry" CAMERA! Film Capital Production Notes STAHL ORGANIZATION COMPLETED Working under the Louis B. ^Mayer banner as an independent production unit. John M. Stahl has completed his organization for the filming of special features for First National release. The first of these pictures, which will be presented by Mr. Mayer as John M. Stahl Productions, is a story called "The Child Thou Gavest Me," based on an original theme by Perry N. Vekroff. He has made arrangements for the exclusive services of Frances Irene Reels, author of "The Woman in His House," and other stories which Mr. Stahl has filmed. Assisting him in the selection of stories and the cisling of pictures is William H. Leahy, until recently Louis B. Mayer's exploitation manager in New York. To assist h.im on the stages. Mr. Stahl has secured Chester L. Roberts. His chief cameraman, Ernest G. Palmer, photographed "The Miracle Man" and the new Betty Compson pictures. FIRST NATIONAL TO RELEASE HOBART HENLEY PRODUCTIONS J. D. Williams has announced that a new contract has just been signed whereby three Hobart Henley Productions will be released through First National. Hope Hampton will be featured in the first production, a picturization of Fannie Hurst's "Star Dust," which ran serially for ten months in the Cosmopolitan Magazine. Anthony Paul Kelly will write the continuity. PREPARING SECOND MOROSCO PICTURE After having been on location four weeks, Oliver Morosco's film company has taken "The Half Breed" to the Louis B. Mayer studio for interior shooting. Meantime, Morosco in New York, is studying the first draught of the second picture to be made by him. This according to present plans, will be "Linger Longer Letty." with Charlotte Greenwood. STEWART PRODUCTION SCENARIZED Having completed the production of "The Invisible Fear," starring Anita Stewart, Edwin Carewe is now supervising the cutting of the picture and making preparations for the filming within a week or two of the star's next vehicle, "The Price of Happiness," which has just been scenarized by Finis Fox. AT THE REALART STUDIO Bebe Diniels ina Mary Mik-s Minter will rest until the middle of *'.;e month, when new productions are scheduled for both. Morris Kohn. president of the Realart Pictures Corporation, has left Los Angeles following a five-day inspection of the company's Hollywood property. Hector Turnbull. who recently joined the Realart organization to supervise the production of two of his own original stories, is busy with the details of "The Lady of the House," the first of the series that Chester M. Franklin is directing. Elmer Harris has completed another original story for Realart, which will shortly be filmed as a Bebe Daniels starring vehicle. Percy Heath is writing the scenario. William D. Taylor is now producing "Wealth," which is the title chosen for Cosmo Hamilton's story called "The Almighty Dollar." ERLE KENTON PRODUCING COMEDY FOR WARNER BROTHERS Work has started on the two-reel comedy being produced by Warner Brothers. About a month will be spent upon the filming of the picture, which is to be released upon the Educational program. Kimball AT GOLDWYN Victor Schertzinger, director for the Tom Moore company, is busy preparing "Bearing the Game," an original screen story by Charles Kenyon, which will be Moore's next starring vehicle. Production on this picture will start March 17th, St. Patrick's Day. Julian Josephson, associate editor, is writing the continuity for "Hungry Hearts" in collaboration with Anzia Yezierska, the author, Mary Roberts Rinehart has completed an original screen story, "The Glorious Fool." which will be produced soon. Leroy Scott and Arthur F. Statter are working on the continuity of "The Mother," Mr. Scott's latest screen offering. Gouverneur Morris is now writing "The Hangman. " Gertrude Atherton has just completed the novelization of her screen story, "Don't Neglect Your Wife." The book version will be called "Honor." Will Rogers and his company returned this week from Jackson, California, where scenes for "The Bashful Romeo" were made. Rita Weinian will remain at the Culver City studio while her original screen story, "The Grim Comedian," is being filmed. Production will start soon under the direction of Frank Lloyd. Bess Meredith wrote the continuity in collaboration with the author. AT VITAGRAPH Earle Williams and his unit, under the direction of David Smith, will leave for the mountains this week to spend several days on location for "The Secret of the Silver Car," Wyndham Martyn's novel. The production will be completed shortly after their return. George Randolph Chester is now casting "The Son of Wallingford," Vitagraph's next special production to follow "Black Beauty." The author will personally direct the story. Production will be commenced immediately. I-arry Semon has started a new special comedy entitled "The Baker." William Duncan and Antonio Moreno are resting between pictures, but each is expected to start shortly. Joe Ryan is making the fourteenth and fifteenth episodes of "The Purple Riders," which will bo completed this month. AT UNIVERSAL Norman Dawn has returned from the North woods where he filmed a series of scenes for "The Evil Half," in which Eva Novak is starring. Carmel Myers is at work on "Thou Art With Me," the tentative title of her forthcoming photodrama in which she is being directed by King Baggot. The story and scenario are the work of Lucien Hubbard and Doris Schroeder. "The Truant," Frank Mayo's vehicle, Is Hearing completioni' under the direction of Robert Thornby. Work has begun on a seven-reel feature, "Renunciation;" from the original story by Peter B. Kyne. Jacques Jaccard is directing with an all-star cast. Edward Laemmle has begun work on another two-reel western to be called "The Pulpit Punch." and featuring Jack Perrin. Lucien Hubbard, scenario editor at Uiiiversal, announces the purchase of three stories for early production. "Three in a Thousand," by Ben Ames Williams, will be a starring vehicle for Frank Mayo; Harry Carey will appear in "Christmas Eve at Pilot Butte," a story from the pen of Courtney Ryley Cooper; and "Cabella Drives the Continued on Page 8
