FILM CAPITAL PRODUCTION NOTES AT UNIVERSAL CITY Under the direction of Rollin Sturgeon, progress is being made on Carmel Myers’ first Universal feature since her return to the screen. The story is entitled “In Folly's Trail.” Rudolphe Christians and Lee Kohlmar are engaged in the production of “The Watcnmaker” by George Hull under the direction of Harry Franklin. Hoot Gibson is at work on a two-reel Western by Louis D. Lighton entitled, “Man-yin’ ”. Dorothy Woods is his principal feminine support. Elmo Lincoln is at work on the seventh episode of “The Lightning's Eye.” Director J. P. McGowan has started on a special feature. "Below the Dead Line.” “Leaping Lions and Jail Birds” is the title of Wm. Watson's Lion picture now in production at Universal. Director Wm. Craft has started “The World Inside.” “The Orchid.” a story by Margarita C. Storra, has been purchased as a vehicle for Carmel Myers, as has “Kate of Crime Street” by Edgar Wallace. Eddie Lyons and Lee Moran announce that their next will be entitled “Once a Plumber — ” by Edgar Franklin. AT THE VITAGRAPH STUDIO Director Chester Bennett with Earle Williams and “The Purple Cipher” company has just completed a week’s work at San Pedro where submarine scenes were taken. Starting with the fifth episode Wm. J. Bowman has undertaken the direction of Antonio Moreno in “The Veiled Mystery.” The Joe Ryan and Jean Paige serial, “Hidden Dangers” will be released early in July. Director David Smith is preparing the continuity on another James Oliver Curwood story which may be started in a few weeks. AT THE GOLDWYN STUDIO E. Mason Hopper will commence within the next few days filming “Edgar’s Sunday Courtship,” the next of the Booth Tarkington Edgar series. Jack Pickford is scheduled to commence this week upon George Ade’s “Just Out of College.” Mabel Normand has returned from her New York vacation and will begin filming “Head Over Heels’’ at once. SEITZ TO PRODUCE FEATURE IN SPAIN George B. Seitz, producer of Pathe serials, is going to Spain to film his first feature picture. Following arrangements made with Paul Brunet. Vice-President and General Manager of Pathe. June Caprice will he costarred with Mr. Seitz. Marguerite Cortot and Harry Semmels are also in the cast. The comnany will sail for Algecirls, Spain, on July 6th. The story selected for the first feature is an adaptation of a play he wrote some time ago entitled “The Golden Senorita.” TOURNEUR TO START “BIG SIX” PICTURE Maurice Tourneur has actually commenced work upon his initial production for Associated Producers. He is the first of the “Big Six” to do so. Although he is not yet “shooting.” sets are under construction, the scenario is being completed, and the cameras will click July first. According to an announcement from the Tourneur studio the title which is said to be universally known, is not being divulged. Outside of the fact that Barbara Bedford will appear in the picture, no cast details are forthcoming. READ TO DO ALL STAR PRODUCTIONS J. Parker Read, Jr., producer of the Louise Glaum and Hobart Bosworth photoplays, is making ready to launch two all star productions. These films will be additions to the five Glaum and five Bosworth pictures scheduled for the current year. METRO PICTURE BEING CAST With the script for “Someone in the House” completed, selecting for the all star is now being made. Lois Zellner of the Metro scenario department wrote the screen adaptation from the stage play of the same name. John E. Ince will direct. Production is expected to commence in a few days. Lloyd B. Carleton, Director General Clevemont Photo Play Productions JOE ROCK HAS OWN COMPANY The latest producing unit to be added to the moving picture industry in Los Angeles is the Joe Rock Film Company, which is headed by Joe Rock for five years the Vitagraph comedian, and member of the team of Montgomery and Rock. A group of Santa Ana capitalists and Los Angeles film men are associated with the comedian in the new venture. The company will start production on June 28th. One and two-reel slap-stick comedies, and tworeel comedy-drama will be made on regular schedule. Mr. Rock flew from Los Angeles to Santa Ana Friday to sign his new contract, where the mayor and business men had arranged a ceremony to inaugurate the new organization. Grover Jones, who directed Rock in his last Vitagraph comedies, will be associated with him in the new company. A second director will be named to alternate with Mr. James keeping the comedian constantly working and insuring the completion of each picture well in advance of release date. AT LASKY’S George Melford’s company filming “The Jucklins” will go almost immediately to a location in Northern California, where important action will transpire. Bryant 'Washburn is in the midst of “Wanted, A Blemish” under the direction of Maurice Campbell. It will be two weeks before William De Mille gets started upon “His Wife and His Friend.” The cast has not yet been chosen.
