Cependant, avant d'être choisi par MM. de Marsan et Maudru pour interpréter le rôle de «Coupeau » dans l'œuvre d'Emile Zola. Jean Dax. artiste célèbre au théâtre, s'était fait apprécier dans bon nombre de films : La Rafale. Le Lvs Rougi, Pies des Cimes, La Nuit de la SaintLa n. Le Lys du Mont Saint-Michel, Humanité, pour citer les plus récents. Dans L'Assommoir. Jean Dax réalisa un « Coupeau » admirablement nature et qui avait vraiment l'odeur du peuple. La grande scène finale du « delirium tremens » fut réalisée par lui avec une puissance réaliste extraordinaire dont il n'y avait sans doute pas eu d'équivalent au cinéma. Prochainement. Jean Dax reparaîtra dans Le Roi de Paris adapté du roman de Georges Ohnet par Maurice de Marsan et mis en scène par Charles Maudru. le nouveau grand film populaire que sortira prochainement la maison Aubert.
