We set out from Chamonix towards the rock pyramids at its base, passing first the Glacier des Bossons and then the Arvc, an icy river flowing from the Mer de Glace. Climbing the Brevent on mules, we come to the Aiguille de Midi, which is over 12,000 feet high and is part of the same chain as Mont Blanc. We are now above the line of eternal snow and eventually the summit is reached.
