Expect Early Action Vld. Steffen's ordinance was referred to : judiciary committee and when that ly met on September 25 it was given a sub-committee composed of Alder men Steffen. Kimball. Maypole. Rodriguez and Kostner. Mr. Steffen is at present out of the city and will return on November 19 at which time it is expected that the subcommittee will meet and report back to the judiciary committee. The proposed ordinance is as follows: "If a picture or series of pictures for the show or exhibition of which an application for a permit is made is immoral or obscene, it shall be the duty of the general superintendent of police to refuse such permit; provided, however, that before refusing such permit the said picture has been submitted to a board of ten censors, none of whom shall be officials of the police department, and a majority of the said board shall be of the opinion that the said picture is immoral or obscene." It is believed by the film industry that this is the nearest approach to ideal conditions or film censoring that has yet been advanced, and the ordinance will, undoubtedly, be given the hearty support of the manufacturers, distributors and exhibitors. bVilliam A. Montagu Love and Harley Knoles are among those who receive this attention from the child actress. Mr. Brady is shown in his office where he drops all business to take the little lady on his knee and assure her there will be a place waiting for her on her return. H. Brenon Film Corp. Opens Canadian Office The Herbert Brenon Film Corporation is opening a branch in Canada, of which Chandos Brenon of Montreal will be in charge. Chandos Brenon has completed plans for the opening of the Canadian offices and will have his headquarters at Montreal. He will have charge or the exploitation of Brenon pictures in Canada. Chandos Brenon is a brother of the CHANDOS BREXOX director and producer, and is widely known in the film world of Canada, having been the Canadian representative of several big American moving picture concerns in that territory. Mr. Brenon's first report from the headquarters in Montreal concerned the success of Herbert Brenon's recent production. "The Fall of the Romanoffs."
