74 MOTION PICTURE HERALD April 23, 1938 YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN UP EDGAR A. WEIMER, JR. manages the Paxtang Theatre, Paxtang, Pa., for the Hill Amusement Co. While attending school, Ed worked as part time usher in various theatres, finally getting the job of playing piano in one of the "shooting galleries." Later, Weimer was promoted to organist in one of the Jackson Enterprises house and when sound made its entrance served as apprentice projectionist and played spot numbers on the organ. Working also as maintenance man, this theatreman later became chief operator at the State, Reading, finally joining the Paxtang staff as operator, which job he held until 1937, at which time he was promoted to his present spot. Well, Weimer, with your varied experience in showbusiness, you ought to be able to send along some mighty interesting stories. V SCOTT ROBERTS manages the Comique Theatre in Camden, Maine, and started in the business as usher at the Strand in Dover, N. H. During college Roberts worked part time in various theatres and later in a full-time capacity joined the Graphic Circuit first in Ellsworth, then in Belfast and now in Camden. We have several of the boys in your circuit as members and we anticipate another active one in vou. How about keeping us posted, Scott? V HOMER BURTON FULLER, JR. is down in Orlando, Fla., managing the Beacham Theatre, one of the Sparks houses. Fuller started his career as secretary to Air. M. J. Sparks in Orlando at the Beacham Theatre. After a year, he was promoted to assistant manager of that house, which position he remained in for a year, at which point he was promoted to manager of the Ritz. From there, for a short time, he managed the Grand Theatre and was then sent over to his present spot. V R. F. HOTZ manages the Rialto and Rex Theatres down in New Braunfels, Texas, for the Jack Pickens Theatres. New Braunfels is not strange to this department, having already had contributions from there. However, since we have not yet received accounts of this theatreman's activities, we take this means of welcoming him into the Round Table and inviting him to send along reports of his exploitation stunts. V C. B. DORTCH manages the Rialto Theatre in Morrilton, Ark., for the Malco Circuit and we're mighty glad to have him with us, since we have that circuit sewed up, Round Tabley speaking, about 100 per cent. The first position held by Dortch in theatres was as projectionist, holding this job for about three years, at which time he switched to the door, going on up to assistant and then manager. We have some other good friends in Morrilton, C. B., so how about starting up a little lively competition through these pages. Birthday Greetings VA/Ill! A A William A. From there over to the Mozart as assistant manager, later being promoted to manager. V E. F. INGRAM in Ashland, Ala., is a partner and manages the Ashland and Lineville Theatres, having entered showbusiness as assistant to projectionist in Ashland. After a fling in the booth, Ingram worked the front of the house, later becoming theatre owner, with C. I. Hood, Jr., operating the houses in Ashland. This theatreman also operated the Ingram and Opera House in Talladega, Ala., and later spent some time in Hollywood, learning production, but returned to the exhibition field as his first love. V J. M. NASS manages the Port Theatre in Poplar, Mont., for the John Survant Enterprises, beginning as an usher and doorman at the Roxy Theatre, Glasgow, Mont., then controlled by the Wellworth Theatres. From there Nass went over to the Orpheum in the same town as doorman and floor manager and then to the Fort as manager. Nass extends a cordial invitation to any and all of his Round Table brothers who might find themselves anywhere around Poplar while vacationing, to drop in and he promises them the key to the city. On behalf of the boys, we thank you. V BERNARD S. MURPHY may be found managing the Roxy Theatre in Earlington, Ky., and started with his company when it first opened as projectionist, working in practically all jobs around the house until two years ago when he was made manager. Well, Bernard, you are the first member to join the ranks from Earlington and we're hopeful that you will keep us posted on how you exploit your shows down there. V JAMES MAY is over in Brooklyn managing the Atlantic Theatre and started at the Windsor Theatre in the Bronx as doorman. After a year, May was promoted to chief usher and after serving for one year as chief, obtained position as manager of the Eagle Theatre in Harlem. Two years there finds the theatreman promoted again to the Atlantic, from where we look forward to hearing from him. V DON KELSEY manages the Mount Theatre in Rocky Mount, Va., for the English Theatre Company. Kelsey is another showman to have started as a projectionist at the Lyric Theatre in Blacksburg, Va. After operating the booth for a period of five years, Don secured a position as manager of the Mount.
