The would-be assassin escapes and then accuses Jack of the act. Organizing a posse, the jealous man sets out to lynch Jack, but their plot is frustrated by the arrival of another group of cowboys. Lynching is proposed, but Tom protects "Pepper" Baldwin against the mob, but the wounds the bandit received in the fight leading to his capture prove fatal, and Tom eventually wins the girl of his heart.
