Octobn 14, 1939 SHOWMEN'S TRADE R E V 1 li W Page 27 Simplex Double Shutter MoQuI Lamp Steps Up Light; Holds Down Current Consumption International Projector Corporation is now marketing the Simplex Double Shutter attachment and the Simplex Air Deflector and Aperture Cooling Unit, which are an integral part of the E-7 Projector, as separate units. The double shutter, illustrated below, is available in models for the Simplex regular rear shutter mechanisms as well as for the Super Simplex mechanisms. As an attachment this unit provides all the advantages of Simplex Synchronized Front and Rear Shutters of the E-7 mechanisms. The improvements include increase of light. Front and rear shutters are mounted on the same shaft and each acts upon one-half the beam, thus successive waves of darkness do not sweep the full length of the screen but meet at the center of the image. This results in a sharper picture while reducing heat. The Aperture Cooling Unit, in addition to its factors of safety by reducing heat at the aperture, prevents carbon dust and dirt from being drawn from the lamphouse into the mechanism and also into the projection room itself. Giant Curtain Track Installed by Vallen Seven hundred and fifty feet of specially designed steel curtain track comprise the recordbreaking track installation just completed in the gymnasium of the new Senior High School of Richmond, Ind. The installation includes eight A^allen No. 150 all-steel, noiseless, safety curtain tracks, ranging in size from 40 to 120 feet, especially designed for the Richmond School by Vallen, Inc., of Akron, Ohio. By a unique arrangement of curtains suspended from tracks along the balconies and across the open end, the gymnasium can be converted into a huge room 72 x 120, while overlapping curtains traveling on tracks through the center, quickly divide the gymnasium into two separate rooms. The curtains can be raised to clear the entire area of the room, not by flying each track and curtain as a unit, but by raising the curtains themselves. Earl J. V alien, president of Vallen, Inc., reports a steadib^ increasing demand for his company's equipment, with manj^ inquiries received from architects and exhibitors. Myers Wometco Purchasing Head Francis H. Myers has been appointed as head of the purchasing department of Wometco Theatres, operators of a chain of theatres in Florida THE Strong Electric Corporation has introduced a new high intensity arc lamp that is being demonstrated by independent supply dealers throughout the country. The Strong Mogul High Intensity Automatic Reflector Arc Lamp, as it has been officially designated, is widely regarded as marking a decided advance in projection lamp design and construction. It has been designed to project a volume of light even beyond the normal requirements of theatres employing the modern large screens of non-reflective surface and porous structure; screens that require a tremendous increase in light value to maintain a satisfactory level of illumination. Higher Efficiencies Attained The higher efficiencies attained through the use of the Mogul result in this increased light intensity without a corresponding increase in operating costs. Designed to meet demand for improved projection at a lower cost per light unit, the Mogul High Intensity Arc has demonstrated its ability to project a steady, brilliant light distributed uniformly over the complete screen area, producing a picture which brings out all the delicate details and possessing a realistic daj'light effect. This is the same characteristic snow white light that is used in the studios to produce technicolor and is essential to its proper projection. Chief among the factors responsible for the outstanding performance of the Mogul are the ball bearing motor and arc control system which has separate adjustments for the feeding rate of both the positive and negative carbons, which are supported by full-floating holders and heat resisting guides near their burning end to assure perfect coaxial alignment. The optically corrected elliptical reflector 14 inches in diamei^er is lield in a cast aluminum frame ad justable on its true optical axis. The Strong Mogul is modern in design and of ample size to facilitate easy trimming and cleaning, and assure proper ventilation without disturbing the arc, which is stabilized by an electro magnetic field. There is an ammeter with an illuminated dial, trimming and framing light, arc imager, inside dowser system interconnected with a mirror flame shield, a full-length removable ash tray, and three arc vision windows for vertical and lateral observation of carbon alignment. Place Cloth Between Layers When the theatre is being renovated, it is I'sually the custom to remove the electric light bulbs and place them in a bushel basket. Tn orevent the filament of the lamps from breaking when the lamps come in contact with each other, place a piece of cloth between each laj^er as 3^ou carefully place the bulbs in the basket. With the clotli as a cushion, you'll find the loss of lamps will be much smaller than when you just stack them on top of each other. The Eye IS Quicker Than the H and!
