Nach H o p w o o d , Living Pictures, London 1899, S. 15, bestand der Mechanismus, den W. ,,vor 40 — 50 Jahren" anwandte, aus einem Schneckenrad mit „betrunkener Schraube", wie es später zeitweilig beim Kinematograph angewandt wurde (zuerst in Levisons Reihenapparat mit Trommel von 1888). William B. Carpenter spricht von diesem Lebensrad in der Zeitschrift The Student and intellectual Observer of Science, Literature and Art, Vol. II, 1869, S. 26, und zwar in einem längeren Aufsatz, dessen Veröffentlichung im Juliheft 1868 begann. Charles Wheatstone habe es ihm letzthin (lately) gezeigt. Das Lebensrad ist also voraussichtlich nicht lange vor der Abfassung des Aufsatzes entstanden, vielleicht 1868. Auch Carpenter erwähnt die sprungweise Bewegung durch eine Art Schnecke Die Scheibe habe eine Reihe schwarzer Figuren gezeigt, die einen Mann mit sich bewegenden Gliedern darstellen. — Für Projektionszwecke wurde in dien 60 er Jahren ein Lebensrad mit sprungweise bewegter Bildscheibe gefertigt: das Choreutoskop von B e a 1 e (siehe unter Projektions-Lebensrad). 2) 1873 benutzte Wheatstone bei einer Vorführung eine mit dem Stereoskop verbundene Wundertrommel (Photogr. News 17, 541, 1873); der ruckv.
