First appearance on stage at seven years of age. At sixteen ran away from school to play “walk on’’ parts for Charles Frohman Company. Played English companv of “Merry Widow.” Came to America with “Quaker Girl” Company. Baritone lead with several opera companies which toured India and Orient. In America played in stock in Syracuse, Rochester, Oakland and San Francisco. Played leads on New York stage. Went overseas in 1917 with 28th Londons. Was transferred to Roval Flying Corps After war returned to New York stage — later to Paramount Pictures. Since signing his contract with Universal in 1922 has appeared for no other company. His favorite hobby is airplaning and owns five Sopwith-Snipe airplanes. 27
