Born in the wide open spaces of Nebraska in Tekemah. Was a ranch rider, rodeo and round-up expert. Entered Pendleton Round-up in 1913 and carried off the championship. Started in pictures doing trick riding stunts and playing small parts. Went overseas as a member of the field artillery and saw considerable service. Returned to Hollywood shortly after the war and soon signed to a contract by Carl Laemmle. Has been a Universal star ever since. Thoroughly enjoys his picture work. He works with director on every story. Has written a number of screen plays.
