National Film Board IN the 1961-62 fiscal year ended March 31 the National Film Board was given $5,143,773 by the Government, added $877,073 in rentals and royalties and $15,062 from miscellaneous sources to this for an income of $6,035,908, the annual report of the Government film agency shows. The NFB is Ottawa’s official agent for the making of films and departments and agencies of the Government paid it $1,041,471, while it got $463,497 from others. The NFB also calls this income, so that its total was $7,540,876. The excess of income over expense, which it returns, was $50,424, so that it spent $7,490,452. The previ¬ ous year it spent $6,974,311. Flow did it spend this $7,490,452? Its main production program of films and other visual materials cost $3,007,480, production for government depart¬ ments and others took respectively $976,606 and $270,715, a total of $1,247,321. Distribution cost $2,203,342, admin¬ istration and general services $860,200, and acquisition of equipment $172,109. The figures do not include rent, main¬ tenance, etc. The Board completed 400 produc¬ tions — 295 for itself and 105 sponsored. Its regular staff totalled 642 and those on a contract or terms basis were 108. In the motion picture laboratories film processed totalled 20,143,163 feet, which was made up of both color and black-and-white.
