Frankel and is dedicated to Dr Jigaro Kano and we see his portrait. The film is executed by the YMCA judo club. We are given some of the history of jiu-jitsu and an ex- planation of its purposes. The Kado Kwan is mentioned and we learn that Theodore Roosevelt introduced the art of judo to the United States and had a Japanese in- structor at the White House. We learn that the art is taught to police officers of the Department of justice, in the U.S. Naval academy, etc. Then the film goes on to show the importance of proper school- ing as pertaining to both attack and de- fense. We are shown the customary en- trance and salute. Ukemi—the art of fall- ing is shown; and also kuvushi—a manner of courting loss of balance which when combined with the use of momentum and leverage causes opponents to fall. Various techniques are shown, and many special throws. . . We see tricks of leverage in- cluding offensive and defensive measures. Practical uses of such a knowledge is demon- strated. We are shown a chart pointing out vital points and nerve centers and the instructor demonstrates the possibilities of using such a knowledge advantageously.
