Wilson Company, publisher of the Educational Film Guide, does not maintain a film library. All films listed in the Guide may be obtained from the sources indicated. Many of the films listed will also be available from local film libraries. From a Local Film Library — To save time and transportation costs, it is advisable to secure films from the nearest or most convenient source. Films may be available in your community from the state university or state department of education, the public library, commercial film libraries, or a number of other types of agencies. A geographical directory which will be helpful in finding out what film libraries serve your area is "A Directory of 2002 16mm Film Libraries." Write to the Visual Education Service, U.S. Office of Education, Washington 25, D.C. for specific information concerning price and method of purchase. From the Main Source — The abbreviation immediately following the title of each film listed in this Guide is for the producer or sponsor which owns the films and has the right to control its distribution (or the agency to whom these rights have been delegated). The complete name and address of each main source is given in the "Directory of Main Sources." When branch offices are also listed, it is advisable to contact the office nearest you. Some main sources only sell their films (e.g. Coronet, McGraw-Hill, Young America) . To rent their films it will be necessary to apply to a local film library which has purchased prints. Some main sources (e.g. Encyclopaedia Britannica Films) not only sell their films, but also maintain their own rental libraries. When you are unable to obtain a film listed in this Guide from a local film library, apply to the main source for the film or information on where it can be obtained. "Free" films — This term is usually applied to films for which no specific rental charge is made, although the borrower may have to pay transportation charges for one or both ways. These films are listed in the Guide with the words "free-loan" given instead of a sale or rental price. When a sponsoring agency loans its films through its own office (or branches) the sponsor is given as the main source. If distribution of the film is handled for the sponsor by another company, this "distributor" is indicated as the main source. Some sponsors secure distribution of their films by placing prints on deposit in various film libraries thruout the country. In this case the sponsor is listed as the main source, and will answer inquiries by telling the borrower where the film is available. Borrowers may save time by first consulting the catalogs of the film libraries serving their area. 780
