Valeaka Suratt featured finds plenty to do in the leading role. Her cos- tumes are numerous and unusually mag- nificent. The story at times becomes rather illogical and the reason for the title is not particularly apparent Technically the production is well staged and on the whole quite entertaining. Box Office Value. The leading roles are well enacted by William Desmond and Dorothy Dalton. The action, a trifle slow at the start, picks up nicely, working to a holding and ex- citing climax. The locale of the picture for the best part is on a desert isle, and the locations chosen are picturesque in the extreme. A former concert ball girl is cast on an uninhabited inland with a young minister. The clergyman loses some of his bigotry and the girl comes to a true con- ception of life and love. The picture is well up to the standard of excellence main- tained by Triangle, with proper attention to detail and settings. Box Office Value. "The Witching Hour," a tremendous Broadway success of some seasons ago. has lent itself admirably to picturization and great credit is due its producers for their intelligent handling of the difficult thought transference idea on which the en- tire situations of the stage play are based. With the aid of excellent double exposure work, involving camera technicalities of an extremely delicate nature, the psychic ele- ments of the screen production have been registered with artistic clearness. Aubrey Smith in the role of the Louisville gambler and student of mental telepathy, gives a most powerful and impressive perform- ance. The picture has been lavishly mounted with an eye to artistic detail and the symbolic sub-title frames add consid- erably to the general excellent effect.
