At the age of twenty-one he was a com- poser of many composi- tions, including orchestral suites, instrumental solos and songs. When at the age oi twenty-five he be- came one oi the musical directors of the Victor Talking Machine Co. lie- had almost twenty years of orchestral experience behind him. With the development of the orchestration of modern dance music, Mr. Shilkret was in a position to hear the best orches- tras which were coming to the Victor laboratories to record, and he became keenly interested in their activities. As a result of his aims and ideals in this direction, the Interna- tional Novelty Orchestra was formed and there is probably no other orchestra in existence that records as many selections as this orchestra. The versatility of the men in the International Novelty Orchestra and their keen musical intelligence is shown by the fact that they record selections for over Nathaniel Shilkret aggregation of artists has struck a popular chord, as is evidenced by the steadily growing demand for its records by people of all na- tionalities.
