* WILL N. STEELE. My first appearance as an entertainer occurred in New York City on the 25 th of June, 1871. As this period also marks my debut on this earth, it might be advisable to explain that the entertainment afforded by your humble servant on this occasion consisted of a series of squeaks and squalls, a specialty peculiarly confined to performers of very tender age. My performance must have met with instan- taneous success, inasmuch as I was retained at this house for many years, remaining under the same management. That ambitious fever to entertain others, once imbedded in the system, is a dangerous malady, incurable even with the aid of Hood’s Sarsaparilla. My case was no exception to the rule and at the age of twenty I found myself with a
