Guild Committees Announced For Third Annual Ball T HE third animal dinner dance of the Screen Actors’ Guild will be held on the evening of Washington’s Birth¬ day, February 22nd, in the ballroom of the Biltmore hotel. According to pres¬ ent plans, the event promises to be the most brilliant of these annual affairs, and judging from the advance reserva¬ tions it will be a complete sellout. James Cagney heads the ball com¬ mittee, which is composed of Lucile Gleason, Lois Wilson, Kenneth Thom¬ son, Gloria Swanson, Boris Karloff, Ralph Morgan and Ann Harding. Lee Tracy is chairman of the enter¬ tainment committee, with Clifton Webb, Dick Powell, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Bing Crosby, Jeanette MacDon¬ ald and Lyle Talbot the other members. The Decoration committee consists of Henrietta Crosman, chairman, William Haines, Jean Muir, Donald Woods, Francis Lederer and Jean Hersholt. Joan Crawford heads the reception com¬ mittee, which has as its members Eve¬ lyn Venable, Maureen O’Sullivan, Claudette Colbert, Bette Davis, Margar¬ et Sullavan, Anita Louise, Patricia El¬ lis, Frances Drake and Marguerite Churchill. T HE program committee: Noel Mad¬ ison, chairman; Hugh Herbert, Ar¬ thur Byron, Genevieve Tobin, Glenda Farrell, Charles Starrett, Claude King and William Gargan. Robert Montgomery heads the supper committee with Warren William, Spen¬ cer Tracy, Florence Fair, Dolores Del Rio, Ann Southern, Alan Mowbray and Frank Lawton as members. James Gleason is chairman of the door committee consisting of Richard Tucker, Edmund Lowe, Robert Arm¬ strong, Russell Hopton, Richard Dix, Cary Grant and Victor McLaglan. The committee in charge of tickets is headed by Edward Arnold and is made up of Fredric March, Frank Mor¬ gan, Chester Morris, Edward Everett Horton, Edward G. Robinson, Charles Farrell, Walter Abel, Dudley Digges, Robert Young and Paul Harvey. Inasmuch as the seating capacity of the ballroom is less than the Bowl, which was used last year, the committee suggests that reservations be placed early to avoid disappointment. Every effort is being made to make this event even more brilliant than the two suc¬ cessful affairs preceding it have been, and unusual entertainment, music and decorations are promised. Jean Muir On Magazine Commitiee D URING the past month, Jean Muir has been appointed to replace C. Henry Gordon on the Screen Actors’ Guild Magazine Committee. 3ln ffhmoriam Thelma Todd 171 New Members I N the biggest membership spurt in the history of the organization, 18 players in the Senior classification and 153 in the Junior group have been elected as members of the Screen Actors’ Guild by the Board of Directors since the last issue of this publication.
