Extra Wage Schedules Now In Effect A SSISTANT directors, production managers and casting directors have been offering extras less than the wage scale established by N.R.A., ac¬ cording to information received by the Junior Screen Actors’ Guild. It is claimed by the studio employees that this wage scale no longer is in force inasmuch as the N.R.A. is out of exist¬ ence. These are false claims. The wages established under the NR.A. are still recognized by all major studios. At the time the N.R.A. was declared unconstitutional, the Producers’ Asso¬ ciation called a meeting of its members and all agreed to continue the same schedules of pay. Their decision was written into the records and published in the newspapers under their signa¬ tures. Thus it became a binding agree¬ ment between the Producers’ Associ¬ ation and the workers until further notice. And again, on February 27, 1936, at the annual meeting of the Hays organization, this matter was consid¬ ered and it was agreed to continue the wage schedules. This was written into the minutes of the organization as well as being publicized through the news¬ papers. In a further meeting, on March 26, all production heads were notified that this wage scale remained in force, and that violations should not be tolerated. Yet, with all this, certain minor em¬ ployees of the studios have violated the established rates of pay. As a result, we have prepared the following schedules for our members, which we suggest all extras should study and keep. If any employee of any studio attempts to receive your ser¬ vices for less than the schedule, please notify the Guild office at once.
