Screen Actors’ Guild, 1655 N. Cherokee, Hollywood, Calif. Gentlemen : It has been called to the attention of the Commission that extras are being called for more than one costume fit¬ ting, and that they have not been re¬ munerated for overtime arising from these extra fittings. The Industrial Welfare Commission has therefore ruled as follows: The time for any costume fitting shall be limited to l 1 /? hours from the time the extra is required to and does report either at the studio wardrobe or at a costumers. Extras who are dismissed within 1% hours after being called for fitting shall be paid carfare. Extras who are detained more than 1% hours after being called for fitting shall be paid on the basis of one-quarter of the agreed daily wage for each two hours or fraction thereof for all time in excess of the first 1% hours. Extras who are called for more than one fitting for the same cos¬ tume shall be paid one-quarter of the agreed daily wage for each two hours or fraction thereof for all the time spent after the first day they had been called for a fitting. Yours very truly, Division of Industrial Welfare State of California (Signed) Mabel E. Kinney Chief This clarifies multiple fittings for one picture. As we understand the ruling, when you are called the first day for one or more fittings, the studio is en¬ titled to 1% hours of your time, and you are paid carfare. For all time in excess of the first 1% hours, you go on a quarter check basis. When you are recalled on subsequent days for another fitting or fittings, there is no free time granted the studio. You, immediately go on a quarter check basis as soon as you report to the costumers or studio wardrobe.
