solution of Farmers Reducer—say
Potassium Ferricyanide 40 grains.
Hypo (plain crystals) 300 grains.
Water, 80 ozs.
The film must be thoroughly soaked in water before immersion in the above bath. Do not treat the whole film until you have tried the effect on a small sample piece.
LIGHTING—(H.E., Finchley, N.3.) Using your widest aperture, f/3.5, and P.S.P. film, to light a scene measuring six feet wide, with the lamps well bunched round the scene, would take between five and six kilowatts, if you wish to secure a reasonably high-key effect.
FOGGING—(N.L.C., Dukinfield).
The fogging which is occurring is almost certainly due to a light leak into the camera. The position of the fog patch in relation to the first frame of the shot is identical in the samples you submit.
When the film is travelling through the gate the leak is not sufficient to cause fogging, but when the camera is temporarily laid aside and_ the film is stationary the action of the extraneous light is taking effect on the same portion of the film. The extent of the fogging is probably governed more by the strength and angle at which light is striking the leak hole than by the time the film | is actually stationary in the camera. |
The position of the fogging indicates that light is reaching the film between the gate and the exit from the loaded compartment of the charger. The light-trap join between
is, of course, suspect.
If the leak is not obvious and does not lend itself to a simple remedy, the camera should be returned to the makers for inspection.
BUCKLED FILM—(F. W.G., Liver
pool 4). ! There are two most likely causes of
buckled film. The first is the use of |
an excess of cement when splicing. The action of cement is to dissolve or partly dissolve the film and under its action the film tends to change
shape. iE

THE REEL is rigidly constructed of stiff, specially hardened aluminium in the shape illustrated. ~The centre hole is cut square on each side and with keyway to fit all well-known 16mm. projectors. The edges of the reel are finely polished and cannot scratch the film. The film when inserted is ingeniously held by two weak springs inside the usual slit in the centre core.
TH E HUMID CAN is constructed in two parts of stiff tinned plate, the edges of which are spun over to prevent broken nails, etc. In the base is fitted the Humid Element protected by a neat, perforated metal disc. The lid fits quite snugly to the base.
We particularly emphasise the first-rate workmanship and quality of both the above articles.
