The Ditmar charger offers a new feature in the design of apparatus of this type, in that the feed and take-up sections are entirely separate and can be opened and closed separately. Each section has its own hinged lid, which is closed by a spring clip. The body of the instrument consists of a metal die casting, comprising the main portions of the two film chambers. Two further small castings form the inner portions of the film channelling. This method of construction enables the faces of the channel to be brought to a high degree of finish, and in addition these channel surfaces have been formed into large corrugations in such a manner as to ensure smaller bearing surfaces between the channels and the film passing through them. This reduces resistance and the tendency to scratching. The take-up core is a metal pressing with a solid bar across, which engages with the take-up mechanism of the camera. The lids are metal pressings, with embossed faces to give rigidity.
