December 6th, 1933 The AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER p 6 CINEMATOGRAPHER e frequently give very successful results. The puzzles should vary in difficulty, some very easy ones being included to sustain the interest of persons who are not gifted in the art of detection. A point to bear in mind is that your friends are not so familiar as yourself with negative pictures. This will, therefore, greatly increase their difficulty. For the purpose of a competition twenty or a dozen puzzle pictures are numbered and pasted on to stiff card or mounting board to prevent them becoming dog eared or damaged. They can then either be handed to each guest in turn or .fixed around the room in a promin’ent position. A certain time should be allowed lor solving all the puzzles and marks awarded for each correct solution. Where a number 'of different articles are portrayed on one puzzle the points must be equally di¬ vided. The winner is, of course, the person scoring the greatest number of marks, and if he or she is awarded a small prize this will not onlv be appre¬ ciated but will greatly add to the fun. With a little ingenuity the possibilities of this idea are innumerable. Quite apart from the subject of puzzle pictures, the making of shadowgraphs will be found an absorbing occupation capable of results that are always pleasing and often even beautiful. The objects depicted in the above six shadowgraphs are : (1) A barrel tumbler con¬ taining a little water ; (2) A pair of horn-rimmed spectacles ; (3) A number of coins ; (4) Sugar sifter and serviette ring ; (5) Four knobs of sugar, a nutmeg a'r.d a broken egg¬ shell ; (6) A glass bottle and stopper. A Photographic Crossword Puzzle The solutions to the puzzle will be given in next week’s “ Amateur Photographer.” CLUES ACROSS.
