The AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER b 6 CINEMATOGRAPHER a 1VTEWS AND REVIEWS JL 1 ITEMS OF GENERAL INTEREST FROM ALL QUARTERS. Combination printing from cloud and landscape negatives is a subject of considerable importance and interest to all pictorial workers. This was referred to by Mr. W. E. Ginger in his contribution to the series “ How I make my Exhibition Pictures,” and several readers wrote to him for information as to his methods. As a result, Mr. Ginger has arranged to give a practical demonstration in the dark-room at the Cripplegate Institute, Golden Lane, E.C., on Friday, January 18th, at 6.30 p.m. Accommodation is limited to about forty, and readers who would like to attend are invited to send a postcard at once to Mr. W. E. Ginger, 13 1, Hampstead Way, Golder’s Green, N. W. 1 1 . This is an opportunity that should not be missed. The camera class formed at the Dalston Literary Institute last Septem¬ ber is now entering on its second term. The instruction provided has proved very popular, and further students will be welcomed, especially lady members. Camera users residing in the Hackney and Dalston districts will no doubt be pleased to know of this class. Reduced fees are in operation for the remainder of the session, which extends into the middle of June next. The class is under the direction of Mr. R. Coombs, and application should be made to the Dalston Literary Institute, Colverstone Crescent, Dalston, E.8. We have received a number of entry forms for the Pittsburgh Salon, which is to be held from March 15th to April 14th. The closing date for entries is February gth. We shall be pleased to send an entry form to any reader. A stamped envelope should accompany each application. Miniature camera workers who are proposing to enter the annual exhibition of Miniature Camera Photography orga¬ nised by the British Photographic Fellowship should note that the last day for receiving entries is January 2 1st. Entry forms are obtainable from the British Photographic Fellowship, 7, Aberdeen Mansions, Kenton Street, W.C.i, and entries should be addressed to the Exhibition Secretary, B.P.F., Messrs. Foyle’s Gallery, Charing Cross Road, W.C.2, to arrive not later than the date mentioned. Readers are reminded that the Leica exhibition is now open at the R.W.S. Galleries, 5a, Pall Mall East, S.W.i, and will remain open until January 25th. The exhibition, as previously mentioned, consists entirely of enlargements from negatives taken with the Leica camera by Dr. Paul Wolff of Frankfurt. All the prints measure 24 x 16 and are well worth careful inspection, particularly if examined in conjunction with the catalogue which contains full technical January 9th, 1935 data of every print exhibited. This will prove of great value to other users of this camera. The exhibition is open every day (weekdays) from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., except on January 22nd, when it will close at 5 p.m. Admission is free ; sixpence is charged for the exhibition catalogue, and the proceeds will be de¬ voted to the George E. Brown Memorial Fund. We regret to have to record the death of Mr. James H. Coatsworth of Egypt, who for many years was a regular exhibitor at the London Salon of Photo¬ graphy. His photographs were always characteristic views of Egyptian life and scenery. They were frequently re¬ produced in both The Amateur Photo¬ grapher and Photograms of the Year. He was the Acting Director-General of the Alexandria Municipality. A calendar of considerable charm has been sent to us by Messrs. Ilford, Ltd. It is a delightful production, arranged with two months on a page. Each page is embellished with a large photogravure reproduction of a picture from a nega¬ tive on an Ilford plate or film. The pictures have been well chosen, and the reproductions bear testimony to the excellence of the Ilford material. We hear from Messrs. R. F. Hunter, Ltd., 51, Gray’s Inn Road, W.C.i, that for 1933 the 6 X 6 Rolleiflex will be fitted with a Zeiss Tessar f/3.5 lens instead of Tessar f/3.8 and with a new rapid Compur shutter, speeded to 1 /500th sec., instead of 1 /300th sec. There will be no increase in price, and the camera will retail ars formerly at £22 10s. Exhibitions and Competitions ANDFUTURE.
