k AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER o 6 CINEMATOGRAPHER o June I2th, 1935 MEWS AND REVIEWS jL 1 ITEMS OF GENERAL INTEREST FROM ALL QUARTERS. In 1890 there was published “ The Ilford Manual of Photography,” by C. H. Bothamley, F.I.C., and the fact that over 300,000 copies have been sold is sufficient testimony to its merits. The manual was revised from time to time, but there has now appeared an entirely new book under the old title. It was produced under the editorship of the late George E. Brown, F.I.C., etc., who, as usual, carried out the task in an eminently efficient manner. The result is a most valuable and attractive photographic textbook. Pictorial and diagrammatic illustrations abound, and the practical information is wonderfully complete and lucid. It is published by Messrs. Ilford and Messrs. Henry Greenwood & Co. in conjunction, at the very reasonable price of two shillings, and can be obtained through the usual photographic and book-supply channels. We advise every reader to secure a copy at once. A new f/4.5 miniature camera has been announced by Ensign, Ltd. This will be known as the Ensign “ DoubleEight.” It is fitted with Ensar f/4.5 anastigmat, and will take 16 pictures on the ordinary 8-exposure V.P. film. A three-speed Everset shutter, depth-offocus scale and direct-vision optical view-finder are fitted. The price, in leather case, is ^3 12s. 6d. We hope to have more to say regarding this little camera after testing. Hon. Secretaries who are looking ahead and making arrangements for booking lectures, etc., for their autumn programme should communicate with Major Charles Howard, of 18, Albert Road, Regent’s Park, N.W.i, who has a number of attractive travel lectures fully illustrated by lantern slides which he will be pleased to give personally. He will send full particulars on request. A Rolleiflex camera fitted with Zeiss Tessar f/3.8 lens No. 1105085 was lost on May 8th, between Uxbridge and Wembley. If any reader of " The A.P.” has found it, or has knowledge of its whereabouts, will he communicate with the owner, Kenneth C. Anderson, 12a, Leith Mansions, W.9. We have recently thoroughly tested some of the materials, particularly postcards and bromide and gaslight papers, offered at reduced prices by Mr. E. Kimber, 61, Grand Parade, Brighton, 7. In every case we found the products of excellent quality, and would advise our readers to send for price lists. Readers mentioning " The A.P.” may obtain test samples of several of the materials listed. Messrs. Schering, Ltd. (Voigtlander Dept.) ask us to announce that the cor¬ rect prices of the Voigtlander Brilliant cameras announced in our issue of last week should be £5 15s. with f/4.5 in Compur eight-speed shutter, and ^3 15s. with f/6.3 in three-speed T. and B.. shutter. The prices were corrected in part of last week’s issue, but a large number of copies had been printed before the errors were discovered. The large Kodak Photo-Mural (960 sq. ft.) which was displayed at the Con¬ gress of the Professional Photographers’ Association at the Great Central Hotel, Marylebone, recently, attracted con¬ siderable attention and the complete Mural has now been re-erected at the Kodak Works, Harrow, where it may be viewed until 31st July. Messrs. Kodak will be pleased to entertain photographers visiting the Works if they will kindly advise the Professional Department, Kingsway.. London, W.C.2, of their intention to visit the Works and see the Photo-Mural. The latest addition to the ranks of the cin6 clubs, the Eltham Cin6 Society, is giving a programme of amateur films on J une 1 5th. Films to be shown include the Club’s first effort, which should be ready by then. Any reader of " The A.P.” who would like to attend the meeting will be welcomed, and an invitation will be sent if application is made to the Hon. Secretary, F. Rainbow, 7, Spearman Street, Woolwich, S.E.18, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope. After a lapse of a couple of years, the Cripplegate Society on Saturday, 1st June, resuscitated their popular tug¬ boat outing down the river. The com¬ modious “ Ich Dien ” was again char¬ tered, and its eighty to ninety passengers comprised members from ten London societies, including Cripplegate, Wat¬ ford, Bromley, North Middlesex, Hamp¬ shire House, Hackney and South Subur¬ ban. After the journey down-stream the party was put ashore at Greenwich for tea. From figures obtained aboard it appeared that some 1,100 exposures were made, the results of which are to be shown at The Cripplegate Society’s headquarters later in the year. As already announced, a plaque will be awarded for the best print from a negative made on the outing. Those interested are requested to note that prints should be forwarded to Mr. J. J. Butler at the Cripplegate Institute, Golden Lane, E.C.i, during the last week of September. Stolen Cameras. Will R. Rose, Ltd., of 133/134, High Street, Oxford, inform us that two Nettar cameras were stolen from the above address on the 28th May. One of these cameras was a £7 7s. model with f/4.5 lens in Compur shutter, with the firm’s reference in pencil inside the camera, 1.38. The other was a £5 5s. model with the f/4.5 lens in Telmar shutter. Reference 1.33. Both cam¬ eras bore a gold label inside the body bearing the words “ supplied by Will R. Rose, Ltd.” Information from anybody to whom these cameras are offered for sale or in part exchange will be welcomed.
