ow to Load Film
Containers for Miniature Cameras
Many workers who are regularly making ex¬ posures with miniature cameras taking 35-mm. cin£ film can buy rolls of film of various lengths and load the metal containers which are supplied for the purpose. These, when loaded, fit the Leica and certain other cameras, and can be used in place of the usual daylight spools or cassettes. The following series of illustrations show how the operation of loading the film container is performed.
2 — The inner shell carrying the film spool will now slide out.
6 — the emulsion side of the film will be wound inside. As shown in this picture, the emulsion side is towards you.
9 — Close the windows by turning the inner shell until it clicks , but leave about one inch of film projecting through the edge of the slot.
10 — Having closed the windows , the rest can be done in daylight (subdued). Draw out about four inches of film.
3 — Remove the centre spool, and arrange the parts on the bench so that they can be picked up in the dark in order.
4 — In darkness , unpack the roll of film , and with the aid of the trimming template, cut the end to a point. This is best done with a sharp knife as shown.
7 — Any length of film up to nearly forty exposures (5i fl-) can be wound on the spool , which is now placed, knob end first, into the inner shell.
8 — Place the inner shell into the outer case, keeping the windows opposite. This can be done quite easily by touch in the dark.
11 — Place the template in position, and cut off the lower perforation. The template is marked to show the correct position on film. The container is then ready for loading in the camera.
12 — If the new-type spool is available there is no need to take the film chamber apart. The trimmed end of the film can be fastened in position through the opened windows by passing the pointed end through the slit in the centre of the spool.
