WORLD PREMIERE "RAIN" IN LOS ANGELES A BRILLIANT SUCCESS A storm of applause, followed by a shower of appreciative comments from a distinguished first night audience that included practically every screén celebrity in Hollywood, greeted the world premiere of "Rain" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on the evening of September 9, Long before the doors were opened, struggling thousands choked the streets and avenues leading to the theatre. Public interest in this production was so intense that, according to the "Hollywood Reporter," people began to arrive about three o'clock in the afternoon, bringing boxes and camp stools to ease the long wait before the film started, That the picture is off to a tremendous start was proven by the first day's receipts, which shattered the house record.
