So it is advisable tO chance 15 00 something better descriptive of the story, in Great Britain, they retitled the picture “Arms and the Girl," which they trade-showed to an enthusiastic house-full of exhibitors. i8 QOUutgrossing "Call of the Wild," “Dark Angel" and even "Kid Millions" in many key spots in the United States. The production has the added virtue of oveing what is known as a "showman's delight" because its colorful background lends itself to all sorts of exploitation. In New York, for example, United Artists sponsored @ spectacular "Barbary Coast Ball" at the Astor Hotel, proceeds of which went to the Christmas fund of one of the New York papers, which plugged the picture for several weeks. THE MELODY LINGERS ON Mr. Kelly analyzed this picture so thor-— oughly from the foreign market standvoint in his circular letter of Oct. 3838 that anything we told you would be repetitious. But we can give you some last-minute news of the picture's reception at its world premiere in the Aldine Theatre, Philadelphia. The three days' gross beat the gross of "Monte Cristo" at this theatre for a Similar period. Now in its second week there, and holding up in great shave.
