There were a ^eat nnmber of shows and concessions than In anj previous year. The Parker Shows, indndln^ the Trained Wild Animal Show, Whitney's Lot- ta Show, the Japanese Village, and a number of other large feature shows and merltorloas attractions did good business and pleased wen. Several of the exhibitors of agricnitnral im- plements also bad moving picture shows on the grounds, to demonstrate their particiilar lines. The races every day were a big featnre and big crowds could lie seen dally about the trade and grand stand, which waa tested to Its ca- pacity. Thursday, Sept. 15, was the banner day for attendance, it being Milwaukee Day, and business having been snspended for a half day In that city, the attendance ran up to 54,077 people. The officers were well : satisfied with tills year's fair, and already are planning a nam- ber of improvements for the Wisconsin State Fair of 19II, In order that It will be a greater success than any preceding fair in this state. JAKB 1. DISOH. SIMPSON'S NEW VENTURE. 1. C. Simpson has last signed a contract whereby he secures full control of the clever and well-known animal trainer. Miss Essie Fay, and her newest and best featnre attraction, known as Arabia, the horse with the human brain. MiEs Fay entered into negotiations early last winter with the biggest dealer in blooded bocse- flesh In . Hamburg, Germany, to secure for her an educated horse, and as a result, secured her present treastire. Miss Fay presented her equine wcmder for the American public for the time last week In West Virginia's capital dty, and tlie people of Charleston simply went wild <rver the won- derfully clever feats of the remarkable ani- mal. Contracts for a Southern tour have been signed, after the fulfillment of which It Is Mr. Simpson's Intention to take Miss Fay and Ara- bia to Kew York, for a metropolitan engage- ment. ROLLA FAIR REORGANIZED. Bolla, Mo., Sept. 21.—The Old Phelps County Agricultural and' Mechanical Association has been reorganized this year under the name of the Phelps Cotinty Agricultural Association. Arrangements are being made to have a county fair at BoIIa October 11. 12 and 13. . The (fflcers of the society are: colonel G. F. HoUoway, president: Colonel J. M. J)6ugberty, vice-president; and M. S. Bowen, secretary. A vice-president from each township in the cotmty has been sdected. The old fair grounds west of Bolla Is being deared and the track Is being put in order. CARNIVAL NOTES. Capt. W. D. Ament's Carnival Attractions opened at Knoxville, Tenn., Sept. 12. The London Ghost Show and Dixieland Minstrel Plantation. Both shows are fitted up beautiful- ly. Capt. McGcary has full charge of the Ghost Show; Teddy Chester Is stsge manager and principal comedian, with Hayden Dick as head electrician. Capt. Ament bas personal charge of the Plantation; Ghas. J. Harris has the band and orchestra of ten- men; Ed.. S. Howard, stage manager; Harry Saunders and J. Hicks, prindpal comedians. A company of twenty-eight pec^e Is carried. The shows are booked sdld throogh the Sontb for a long sea- son. Two more free acts have been added to the roster of the Cash Carnival Company by Man- ager Casli. The new additions are Happy HI Hubbard, slack wire, and Prof. Zeno, horizon- tal bar performer. The Gash company now has six free acts, namely. Flying Sidney, flying trapeze; Sid DeClairvIlIe; KoUnskl, Boman rings and hand balancing; Sid and I«the, revolving ladder: Happy HI Hubbard and Prof. Zeno. F. B. Ferguson and G. A. Andress' Octopus Show played to great tetnrns at the state fur, Indianapolis, and also at the Dayton Exposition, with the Herbert A^ Kline Shows. ; The Jones Concesdon Ctmipsny dosed a ten weeks' season of Kentucky fairs, the engage- ment proving highly profitable. Although the treasurer of the fair and three clerks were working Inside the oSce, and five policemen were on guard ontslde. no one saw the thief.
