Salome dances before Herod, and at the conclusion St. John’s severed head is brought on a charger and laid at her feet. She throws herself on the ground beside it in an agony of emotion, and Herod, realising the inhumanity of which he has been guilty, seeks to repair his error by delivering Salome to the executioner. This elaborate production shows evidence of minute attention to every detail of costume and accessory, and its result is a gorgeous picture of oriental splendour. Signorina Costamegno gives a dramatic performance of Herodias, and Signorina de Labroy is graceful and seductive as Salome. (Savoia Film, R. Prieur and Co., Ltd. Length 2,350 ft.
