evening writes a note, which he slips under the horse’s bridle, informing them that he has crossed the border for ever, and bidding Fred take care of his daughter. He turns the horse back, and in due time it reaches home. The lovers are sitting by the riverside as the horse comes across. The note is discovered, and we leave them after they have read this touching message. (Released January 19th. Length 900 ft.)
Pimple’s Fire Brigade.—The house is on fire, and Pimple’s fire brigade is summoned. Pimple, in fireman’s outfit, as captain drives, with his gallant crew seated behind him. The fire brigade is in no hurry, and stops at i water-trough to give the mokes a drink. Then a couple of carrots on the end of a long pole are used with a view to getting up speed. But a newsboy comes along announcing “all the winners!” and it is necessary for the fire brigade to disciss the news before they can go any further. The great engine once more gets on the move. It pulls up later near some cottages to inquire of a small boy if he has seen a fire anywhere. The small boy leads them to the burning cottage—the fire is already put out. Pimple, taking no notice of the occupants, runs up the fire-escape, enters the building, and begins t.. fling out the furniture. But he catches sight of a football match in the next field, and he and his gallant band crowd on the roof to watch it. When a goal is scored they are satisfied, and descend to knock off, as it is 1 o’clock. Their luncheon is interrupted by one of the firemen discovering that the fire engine is on fire, and we leave the party amongst the ruins. (Released January 19th. Length 415 fit.)
Central Italy. We commence our trip at Palestina, and get glimpses of the sea between rugyed rocks. Then we get to Capua. Here we have another series of views of the walls and other architectural features of the city. Galta, near Naples, affords some views. (Released January 19th. Length 345 ft.)
Powers.
His Weakness.—An artist and a doctor are both in love with a girl, but the artist is successful, and the doctor goes back to his surgery, deapondent. The artist cannot resist the longing to take morphine. This habit becomes so bad that he goes to the doctor, and begs him to give him morphine. The doctor refuses, and the artist returns to his studio, but. the craving becomes so strong that he takes a revolver, and goes to the doctor again. The doctor refuses for the second time, and finds himself looking down the barrel of the artist’s revolver. The morphine fiend is no match for the medical man, who overpowers him, and takes possession of the weapon. The girl rushes in, and imagines that the doctor has attacked the artist through jealousy. When the artist and the girl have withdrawn, the doctor determines to help his rival, and_ therefore hastens to his atudio, and arrives in time to find him in.a very low state. He takes him to his own house, and places him in bed. His efforts are fruitless, and death claims his patient. The telltale marks upon her fiance’s arm show the girl that his death has prevented her from entering into matrimony with a weak-willed man. She realises how she has misjudged the dootor, and somo time later she consents to become his wife. (Released January 15th. Length 983 ft.)

The Greater Christian.—This film shows, in the form of a story, some of the reclaiming work which is being carried out by the Salvation Army among the members of a class which is practically outside the influence of every other religious sect in the world. (Released January Sth. Length 1,000 ft.)

within six months after his death. If she failed to do so the money shail go to the old man’s nephew. When a romance springs up between the girl and a blacksmith, the would-be heir begins to see that his chance of an inheritance is becoming small, and when he learns that her marriage has been arranged, he determines to do all that may lie in his power to prevent this taking place. He abducts the girl, but Danny, the blacksmith’s faithful friend, discovers what has happened, and resolves to foil the villain. Danny disguises himself as an old hag, ventures into the tower where the girl is detained, and, after having removed all power of opposition on the part of the keeper, succeeds in making his way to her. They change clothes. and the girl effects an escape, Danny remaining bel:ind in her stead. On the arrival of the nephew, he proposes marriage to Nora’s rescuer, taking Danny to be the maiden herself. At last Danny consents, and thenephew escorts his would-be bride to the church, just in time to see Nora leaving the building after having been: united to the man of her heart. The Hour of Peril.—The duty fell upon her, or at any rate she thought so. Her blind sister and her two children were helpless, and she resolved to sell herself into
slavery. She was engaged to a man who was but a man in name. She fancied him a little. but she asked him to
free her that she might marry a man with a purse. Then the ruftian’s raze was boundless, and he drank, and drank, till his brain could contemplate an act that even he, sober, would have revolted from. A party was about to be give by a philanthropist to poor children, and among the guests were the children of the girl’s sister. The drunkard poisoned the ice-cream. Then he came to the girl, and boasted of what he had done. She made a dash to leave the room. He flung himself across her path, and then ensued a struggle. It was grim determination on one side and fierce desire on the other, and the wholesome strength won. She arrived on the scene just in time to avert the disaster, and the hour of peril was past. Nestor.
The Girls and the Chaperon.—Dick Martin, foreman of the Circle E Ranch, tells Colonel Gray that his mother is coming to visit them. The colonel, thinks it is a fine opportunity to invite his three nieces from the city, as Dick’s mother could act as their chaperon. The girls. accept the invitation, and start for the ranch. Two letters are delivered at the ranch—one from the girls to their uncle, apprising him of their visit, and the other to Dick, from his mother, saying that she was obliged to postpone her intended trip. Phil, the colonel’s son, togeher with Jack and Dick, are downcast, knowing that the colonel would not permit the girls to come without a chaperon. Jack impersonates Dick’s mother. The colonel is delighted at the appearance of Jack arrayed as Mrs. Martin, and loses no time in making himself agreeable to “her.” The girls arrive, and take a great liking to the chaperon, which is not relished by Dick and Phil. For a while things are lively at the ranch, with Jack having many narrow escapes of being more than once on the point of being discovered. Jack wants to enjoy a game of cards with the boys, and manages to get into their rooms, only to be interrupted by the colonel. Jack pacifics the colonel by saying that “she” is there to lecture the boys, and takes cards, bottles and glasses, and throws them out of the window. In the midst of the festivities, the real Mrs. Martin comes. Jack, in his haste to get away.
‘leaves his wig in the colonel’s hands. Later, when him
self again, he is introduced to the ladies, who forgive him. Grace, one of the girls, learns to love Jack, much to the Dick and Phil also meet their future partners, and the old colonel transfers his affections to Mrs. Martin. (Released January 15th. Length 983 ft.)
