After several escapes they arrive safely at the mission, where a miniature battle occurs, aud the Zulus flee in disorder. The young lovers are brought happily together, while the coloured maid, who was queen for a day, is the heroine of the hour. (Released February 8th. Length 1,000 ft.) Saving the Game.—At the practice match the day before, Jim Ralston, the half-back, gets a telegram from his mother saying that it is imperative for him to be at his home the next day to sign some papers for the settlement of an estate. Ed. Hobert, the reserve, reads the telegram, and sees an opportunity to play in Ralston’s place. Billy Hanks loane Ralston his car to drive to his home, so as to be back in time for the game. Ed. Hobert gets a pal, Fred Owens, to follow in another car, telling him to let the gasoline out of the tank of Ralston’s automobile. The gasoline is emptied, and Fred Owens stops at a publichouse for refreshments. Upon the discovery of the loss of the power in Jim’s car, the lawyer starts to drive a short cut to the nearest garage. They run across Fred’s automobile in front of the public-house. Ralston tries to bribe the chauffeur—he refuses to accept, but by dint of muscular persuasion he is soon speeding along alone. In the meantime the game is very close. It looks bad for Ralaton’s side, and when he reaches the ground the score 1s six to six, and four minutes to play. Ralston proves to be just in the nick of time to save the day. (Released February 8h. Length 600 ft.) Linked Together.—A youthful pair of lovers, Dick and Nellie, have their first’ quarrel, and refuse to speak to each other. A little later, her Younger sister, Madge, celebrates her ninth birthday by entertaining children on the lawn in front of the house. Nellie’s father, a police sergeant, takes advantage of this opportunity to bring about a reconciliation between the lovers. but to no avail. Little Madge then plans to reconcile them by hand-cuffing them during an unguarded moment. This brings about a number of droll situations, which the children enjoy. Nellie decides to put an end to her embarrassing position by going direct to the police station, dragging Dick after her, with the children following behind. Arriving at the station, her father. the police sergeant, refuses to unlock the handcuffs until they promise to become friends again. . They make up. In Payment Full.—She was a woman, and she felt keeuly the contemptuous glances of other women at her shabby dresses. One night she unburdened her heart to her husband. He sympathised, and in his desire to make her happy. he deviated from the path of rectitude. Suspicion fell upon him, and the office books were examined. His act was discovered, and he was prosecuted. In vain iis wife implored the judge to spare the man who had sinned for her sake. So the four stone walls closed on the miserable man. and the wife who loved sat down to await his return. The years went by. each one deepening the furrows on the cheeks, and gradually turning her hair to silver, and by the side of her flickering fire she peered into the embers and read there the answer to her prayers. The Secret of the Mine.—Harry Duval is confidential clerk to Robert Moore, manager of the Dornan Coal Mine, and he is in love with Winnie, the manager’s daughter. He is hated by two of the miners, Jennings and Hand. When Mr. Moore is called away on business he leaves the management of the mine in the hands of his confidential clerk. Duval, at the end of the day, prepares to take his departure, as he has an appointment with Winnie. He is attracted by a faint light, which appears to penetrate a crack in the wall. Harry discovers that it is really a joint in a very small door, which is contrived to hide a receptacle in the wall. This receptacle contains some radium, and plans and details. which tell of its discovery down in the mine by a man who was manager before Mr. Moore, and who disappeared. in its depths Realising that he has made a discovery which means a fortune to his employers, Harry goes off to keep his appuintment with Winnie. He is not aware that he has been observed by Jennings and Hand, who have taken another miner, Kean Butler, into their confidence. Directly he has !eft the office, these villains break into it, and take possession of the papers which they have seer discovered. When Harry discovers his loss, he is unable to trace the culprits. That day an explosion of fire damp takes place, and a portion of the mine takes fire. Most of the miners working in this portion manage to reach the pithead with the rest of their comrades, but Kean Butler is overcome by the deadly fumes. No man will venture into the burning depths to save him, with the exception of the confidential clerk. Harry succeeds in bringing the unconscious miner to the surface in safety. Kean “itler confesses to Harry the part he played in the work of the previous night, and also betrays his comtrades. Harry hastens to secure the arrest of the two villains. who are now at large. He sends Butler to the police, but Butler is waylaid by Jennings and Hand, and the craven-hearted wretch betrays his heroic benefactor. The miners hasten to the mine, thinking to locate the radium before Harry can get. upon their track, but he is hastening to the mine on horseback. The miners see him urging on his horse in the distance, and start in pursuit. ey catch up with him by the railroad track. They hold up a passing freight train, and make the engine-driver and the stoker dismount. They then tie Harry to the front of the engine. and start the train rushing down the track, without driver or other person to control it. Their next action is to switch the freight train on to the track of a down-coming express. Winnie is scanning the country with her father’s field-glasses, and she sees the diabolical action perpetrated. She saddles her horse. and dashes out. Reaching the junction ahead of the freight train, she dismounts. and. placing her whole strength into one leap, manages to reach the cabin of the engine and arrest the train before it meets the down-coming express. The three miners have entered the mine, and think to find the radium. Whilst they are below, another explosion occurs, but the miners are confident that. they can make their escape through an opening which leads to the river. Seeing that the mine is again on fire. Winnie suggests that they should flood it. She and Harry open the floodgates of the lock, and the river pours into the mine through the opening by which the miners are attempting to escape, and thus they meet an end which they deserve. (Released February Ist. Length 2,000 ft.) Scenes in Dauphine.—<A pleasing little scenic film, which introduces us to Dauphine. a charming district in France. (Released February 5th. Length 430 ft.) Auntie is Transformed Into a Pig.—Auntie is not a generouos soul, and gives uncle a rough time, in consequence of which her niaces and nephews determine to play a joke upon the couple.
