Actual game plays are enacted and slow motion camera action points up the value of demonstrations of catching, pitching, baserunning and sliding for the kids. The climax is the final game between the 1951 Little League World Series between Williamsport Pa. and Stamford Conn. Excellent narration by Ted Husing. Basketball Headliners of 1952 RKO (Special Featurette) 15 Mins. Very good. Some of the zippiest basketball playing of the year is on view in this flashy court panorama. It spotlights the outstanding plays of the 15th annual Invitation Basketball tournament, held in Madison Square Garden, the NCAA competition at Seattle and finally the Olympic tournament, also in the Garden. In the latter contest we see the famed Har ‘|lem Globetrotters against the Col lege All-Americans. The spectacular dribbling of the Globetrotters’ Mar ques Haynes is a real show-stopper. \ Campfire Club RKO (Sportscopo) 8 Mins. Good. The Campfire Club of America, one of the nation’s foremost rod and gun clubs, was established in New York's Westchester county about 50 years ago. On its 225 wooded acres all wildlife is protected and hunting is prohibited. Members are shown competing in angling and skeet-shooting events. There's also a flapjack contest. Winner is the first one to make a fire with one match, mix batter and fry an edible pancake. A Nation Is Fifty RKO 16 Mins. Very good. Cuba, long associated with the three Rs—Rumba, Rum and Revolutions—is celebrating its 50th year as a Republic. This study of the island: reviews Cuban history right down to the recent political coup by Batista. The old and new exist side by side in Cuba and the camera picks up all the striking contrasts. Also shown are the many tourist attractions, the huge sugar industry, new technical developments and the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay. Sample floorshows in Havanas night spots provide a lively finale. Swingtime in Mexico RKO 9 Mins. Good. Lilting Latin rhythm at its swingy best. Luis Arcaraz, the Paul Whiteman of Mexico, leads his orchestra in three enjoyable numbers— “Tabu,” “Tell Me Why” and "Trumpet Mambo.” An _ attractive songstress, Evangelina Elizondo, and the unusually agile dance team of Carter and Valadez complete the ensemble. General Patton was instrumental in saving them from destruction during the last war. Some typical training scenes are shown, building up to a colorful ceremony in which the horses perform incredibly difficult stunts. In Technicolor. show horses. Every Dog Has His Day (Sports Parade) Wamner Bros. 10 Mins. Good. Who's Who in the dog world. This cavalcade of canines presents such diverse breeds as the Great Dane, Chihuahua, Dalmatian, French poodle and Afghan hound. Also featured in the four-legged cast are various types of hunting dogs, sled-pulling Huskies and sheep-tending collies. The animals are seen in their natural surroundings, with excellent Technicolor adding much to the scenic effects. The short will appeal to all dog lovers—and that means practically everybody. Land of Everyday Miracles WB (Technicolor Special) 17 Mins. Very good. A patriotic panorama, exploring the daily miracles we take for granted, but which have made America a land of fabulous activity. It traces our technological, medical and industrial progress, sketching the development of such inventions and discoveries as the incandescent lamp, phonograph, telephone, cotton gin, reaping machine, automobile, radio, motion pictures, Pasteurization and vitamins. Historical background material is handled in a colorful manner and adds to the entertainment value of this short. The Prize Pest Warner Bros. (Looney Tune) 7 Mins. Good. Porky Pig wins Daffy Duck on a radio giveaway show. The little quacker is a born quack and fakes a Jekyll-arid-Hydé personality. As long as he’s ca’ered to he is very amiable, but the minute he’s crossed he becomes a monster. In desperation, Porky turns the tables and dons a horrible mask. It works like a charm and Daffy takes off like a flash. Then Porky sees himself in a mirror. Another flash. In Technicolor. Tweet Tweet Tweety (Looney Tune) Warmer Bros, 7 Mins, Good. The locale of this Technicolor tickler is a national park. One of the tourists, Sylvester the cat, is determined to get his paws on Tweety. The litle bird, however, is slippery as spaghetti and it's always the cat who’s up a tree. Between crashing Redwoods and roaring waterfalls, Sylvester takes a lot of punishment and when last seen he is riding skyward on the crest of a geyser. BOXOFFICE BookinGuide :: May 17, 1952 ~
