Puts Bed in His Lobby Before Run of 'Beast' VAN BUREN, ARK.— Oscar Miller of the Bob Burns Theatre here placed a hospital bed in his lobby ten days before he played “The Beast With Five Fingers,” and he advertised that the bed was for anyone who might faint after viewing the picture. He also issued “faint checks” to prospective patrons. To put his trailer over, Miller turned off all house lights when it was screened, substituting a greenish lobby light from the booth instead. The eerie atmosphere proved a big attention-getter. Knoxville Theatre Project Halted by Government KNOXVILLE — Construction of the Tim Smith Theatre at Sevier avenue and Island Home has been stopped by the office of the housing expediter until such time as the builder can obtain a clearance from the federal agency. The theatre was about half completed when Ben Dewbre, inspector from the Memphis district office, stopped construction. Georgia Theatres Seeks Additional Macon Site MACON, GA. — E. E. Whitaker, official of the Georgia Theatre Co., informed the Kiwanis club that he had been authorized to negotiate for a building site here for a new theatre to be constructed this year. MADISON, GA. — Boswell and Reynolds, owners of the Madison and Greensboro theatres, have purchased a site here for construction of a new house when building conditions are eased, according to Hugh Powers, local manager. The defendant told Judge Charles G. Kelly that he just had an “urge” to clip the hair of Mrs. Joyce Marlar. She caught him in the lobby and held him until police came.
