The development of a constructive plan for solving the industry's music copyright problems will be one of the principal tasks confronting the National Association of Broadcasters at the Tenth Annual Meeting to be held at the Hotel Chase, St. Louis, Mo. November I3, l4, 15 and 16, 1932.
Broadcasters generally are far from happy over the "percentage-ofgross-plus-sustaining-f ee" proposal offered by the American Society of Com¬ posers, Authors and Publishers, ratified by the NAB Board under threat of infringement suits. Even aside from the increased payments which sta¬ tions will be compelled to make for the use of music of the American So¬ ciety, broadcasters do not see in the proposal the basis for permanent stab¬ ility in this important phase of the broadcasting business.
While the licenses are to be issued for a period of three years, broadcasters are looking beyond that term in their present consideration of the subject. They feel that the future security of their industry is de¬
pendent upon a sound and constructive solution of this problem.
The development of a plan which will bring to the industry this future stability and at the same time insure and encourage a steady flow of new musical compositions will occupy an important position on the con¬ vention program.
