September 24, 1932 RECO^«.SNDS ASAIITST 'imAli HEQIJEST Examiner R. K. Hyde, in his report No. 4l4, made this week, recommends that the application of Station VWAX, at Yankton, S. D. for more power be denied that the application of Station KG-DA, Mitchell, S. D. for license renewal be granted, and that the application of the same station for another frequency be denied. iYlTAX operating on 570 with 1000 watts power unlimited time asked that it be allowed 1000 watts night and 2500 watts local sunset; KGDA operating with 100 watts power, unlimited time, on 1370 kc asked that its frequency be changed to i420 kc. It also asked a license renewal. The three cases were consolid¬ ated into one report. Examiner Hyde found that the granting of the application of Station TrVlTAX would require the elimination of Station KGDA. "Moreover," he states," it would result in the allocation of approximately 42 per cent of the facilities of the entire state of South Dalcota in Yankton, a community of approximately 6,000 people." He continues further that "the applicant has not shovm that the service of station \VNAX is such as to justify this action or that there are clear and sound reasons of public policy that would support it." RECOMIvIENDS NEW STATION FOR PUERTO RICO Recommendation was made this week to the Commission by Chief Examiner Yost, Report No. 4l6, that Roberto Mendez be granted a construction permit for a nev/ station at San Juan, Puerto Rico, to use a frequency of 1370 with 100 watts power and unlimited time on the air. The Examiner states that the people of San Juan and vicinity are not now receiving full time broadcasting service and "no objectionable interference is expected to result from the operation of the proposed station." Mr. Yost finds further that the equipment proposed to bo used conforms to the technical requirements of the Commission and the granting of the application would serve public interest. COmiSSION DENIES STATION PERI.IIT Gustav A. Jenkins of Antonito, Colo, was denied a construction permit by the Commission in reversing a decision of Chief Examiner Yost, report No. 331 • License renev/als were granted Stations KGEK, Yuma, Colo, and KGEW, Port Morgan, Colo, in the same decision of the Commission upholding the Examiner. In connection with the construction permit for the new station denied by the Commission, the report states that "the operation of the proposed station at Antonito would result in objectionable interference between its service and that of Station KOB at Albuquerque, New Mex. limiting the service of the Anton¬ ito station. Moreover, it appears that the transmitter site selected by the applicant is unsatisfactory and would cause blanketing in Antonito, destroying most of the nighttime service now received therein from a number of clear chan¬ nel stations."
