Soptemter 24, 1932 RMA HAVING BUSY TIMS General headquarters of the ElvIA are now established at 3^7 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. The former New York office of the RM at 22 East 4oth Street has been closed, and the Chicago office is in charge of Bond Geddes, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Association. Following recent reorganization of the EI.IA there has been a sharp increase in intjerest, enthusiasm and, more important, actual work of the Association's divisional groups and committees. The increased impetus and also results are a.lready substantial. President Fred D. Williams of the RI/IA has traveled liter¬ ally thousands of miles in the last few weeks in connection with the Associa¬ tion's reorganization, and the RMA activities now have the active effort of the presidents and highest officials of all leading manufacturers. Chairman Arthur T. Murray of the Set Division, Chairman S. W. Muldown of the Tube Division, Cha,irman Leslie F. Muter of the Parts, Cabinet and Accessory Division, and Chairman Richard A. O'Connor of the Amplifier and Sound Equipment Division, and their group personnel are already pressing many varied enterprises in behalf of all industry elements, including jobbers and dealers. Meetings of a,ll four divisions will be held within the next few weeks to formulate comprehensive pro¬ grams for the coming year and also on matters imminent at this season. General reports received are that radio is sharing in the recent improvement in business a.nd that automobile radio sets, especially in demand during the past summer, promise to continue strongly in favor this Fall and early Winter. DELETION OF TWO STATIONS RECOMMENDED In his report No. 4l3 this week Chief Examiner Ellis A. Yost recommends the deletion of two California stations from the air, KELW, Burbank and KTM, Los Angeles for not operating in the public interest. The two stations share time on 720 kilocycles and both were asking for unlimited time on the air. They use 500 and 1,000 watts, respectively. The examiner states that in the cases of both stations they "failed to establish by competent evidence that the continued operation would serve public interest, convenience or necessity." "It appears from the record that broadca, sting time over KELW has frequently been given or exchanged for merchandise, laundry service, garage service and other forms of service, rights and privileges," the report states. "For a con¬ siderable period of time requests have been broa,dca-st over KELW that letters be written to the Federal Radio Commission urging that KELW be given unlimited time on the air. It appears in some cases that small prizes v/ere given or promised and time on the air donated as a reward for the writing of such letters." KTM, states the report, used Zandra and Zenda, astrologers, but the statior no longer puts them on the air and v/ill not permit progr.ams of that type in the future, it is further stated. "The deletion of Stations KELW and KTM, " states the Examiner, "would reduce the present quota of the State of California from .3S of a unit over quota to .34 of a unit under quota, and reduce the present over quota status of the Fift] Zone by .72 of a unit."
