For the new fiscal year of 1963. the Federal Aviation Agency has announced that fourteen black and white and color films will be produced for the various services and offices which comprise the agency. FAA uses both in-service capab.lities and commercial producers for its extensive film program which is geared for training, public relatons and general information purposes. The films which have been announced are: A Traveler Meets Air Tniffic Control, a 30-minute color film for the Air Traffic Service which is being written by Co;Peacock. Inc. This is the story of a passenger on a commercial jet flight who meets an FAA Controller and finds out just what services FAA performs on a flight. Show Dangers of Turbulance Air Wake Turbulance. a 15minute, black and white motion picture will be written by William Simon for Air Traffic Service, too. This film depicts the dangers of being caught in the "'wake" of another aircraft and explains procedures to be followed to best avoid accidents in "turbulance'' situations. .Mr Traffic Service will also get films on distance measuring equipment, the use of VORTAC equipment in air traffic control, direction finding techniques, and aircraft identification. Simon will also script a 30-minute color film, titled The Fliglu Standard Story for the Flight Standard Service. And for this same arm of FAA. William Belts will write A Plane is Born, which will emphasize the "safety and efficiency" standards which FAA demands in the development of a commercial aircraft. Flight Standards, in addition, will film The Air Carrier Story, written by High Whittington. This 20-minute color film wiU show FAA's supervision of all types of private and commercial aircraft with respect to maintenance and operation. Film on Landing Procedures A 30-minute black and white film for the Officer of Personnel and Training Service, titled Instri4menl Landing Procedures, will be segmented into Part A-The Localizer, and Part B-The Glide Slope. Another two part film for this Service will run 60 minutes long and discuss investigation techniques. Dr. Calvin Linton. Dean •lures in Preparation for 1963 of George Washington Univershy, will star in this televised recording of his lectures on FAA training courses. Earl Peirce will write a 30-minute color story about the Role of the Aviation Medical Examiner for the Aviation Medicine Service. The benefits to a community of a properly designed, properly built, and efficient airport will be documented for Airports Service in Community Airports, a 30-minute color film. And the International Airports Service wUl film, in color. The FAA Overseas, depicting the operations of FAA in connection with aviation operations outside the United States. » Tom Cassidij Resigm Post in Navy's Training Film Branch , . Film people across the country will be surprised to learn that, after seventeen years in the Navy's film program. Tom Cassidy has resigned as Head of the Training Film and Motion Picture Branch.
