PLaza 7-6977 C.a\ Dunn Completes .Sliooling of His First Feature I'ielure Production of his first featurelength motion picture (scheduled for national theatrical release later in the year) was confirmed by C'al Dunn, head of Chicago-based Cal Dunn Studios. Inc. Four weeks shooting on the Mojave Desert completed all major scenes on location for The Desert Raven, followed by two weeks on Hollywood sound stages. The S225.000 production, aimed at "family trade" is being financed by a group of Chicagoans, including men in the TV film and radio industry. A mystery yarn, set in a desert locale, the feature was directed by ex-Chicagoan Alan S. Lee and features Paul L'Amoreaux in the cast; Rachel Ronien and Rosalind Roberts carry the feminine leads. ^' SOS Pholo-Cine-Optics to Occupy INew (Quarters in N. Y. - The 38-year old professional motion picture equipment organization now known as S.O.S. Photo-Cine-Optics, Inc. will occupy a new 1 8,000 square foot headquarters at 387 Park Avenue South in New York City on June 30th. Announcement of the move was made this month by .Alan C. Hanna[ Barbera Productions of Idollywood entered the field of industrial film production less than a year ago, creating both animation and live-action subjects for leading .American companies. A biographical, all live-action film for Warner-Lambert Pharmaceutical, The Story of Dr. Lister. is a noteworthy example. Made in association with Film Counselors and directed by .Arthur Pierson. the film had a distinguished cast which included Richard Ney. Wanda Hendrix. John Hoyt. Sean McGlory. John -Archer and Lloyd Bochner. The studio followed with Of Mutual Interest, covering the subject of mutual funds, with a cast headed by Donald Woods. An allanimation featurette for the National Association of Tobacco Distributors told the story of that industry in Mr. Leaf. With Jim along production lines Backus doing the voice of "Mr. Leaf," the film was premiered in Miami on April 4. One of the company's TV sponsors. Ideal Toy Company, also sponsored a combination live-action half hour film to introduce the character of Manilla Gorilla to television audiences. Titled Slide-imation. the short filmstrip is an imaginative, fast .4 scene from "Sliilc-iititition paced little presentation that crams 1 30 quick cut frames into its threeminute length. Unusual, too, is the use of zooms, pans, build-ups. popons and squeeze motion, which are familiar techniques in motion pictures, but new and different in slidefilms; has wide appUcation. According to David Wasserman, producer of the film, the Slideimation technique can be used on any modern slidefilm projector, such as Salesmate. DuKane, etc., which can handle quick changes at the rate of three frames per second. The Slide-imation film, which took the honors in the Public Relations and Sales Promotion Category at the American Film Festival, was composed of Lance's own promotion material combined with examples of the technique which the firm has recently made for clients. »• * * * riiapman .i Occupies Larger Studio Facilities in Burbank Chapman 5 Productions.
