Fake acting schools are as numerous In New York as bad actors. Their alleged game is "within-the-law" supposedly.
Samuel Goldwyn may become head of the Willtam R. Hearst picture corporation if present arrangements don't go wrong. This deal is npw pending.
Bert Ennis, former publicity man, has branched oi4 as an independent producer, and will shortly launch his first production. His offices are in the Longacre building.
Wray Physioc is directing Muriel Ostriche in two-reel comedies. He has just finished a Biograph feature which will once again bring back the old A. B. trade-mark to picturedom.
Conditions in New York's picture producing business is at a standstill, because money is not available with which to make pictures. It's going to be a tough winter.
Metro has completely shut down in New York, it appears. Famous Players have given up their 56th Street studio and moved everything to their new building and studios in Astoria. Long Island City, where Victor Smith holds sway as manager. He was formerly with Vitagraph, being one of the Smith Brothers.
Charlie Chaplin is around Broadway in a gray overcoat.
Tefft Johnson is to direct First NationalErnest Shipman two-reel comedies, starring John Junior and Edith Shipman.
Billy Bitzer is reported to have left D. W. Griffith after being the "old master's" chief aid for over twelve years. He will produce independently, it is rumored.
Harry Levey has branched out as a full fledged producer. His "Uncle Sam of Freedom Ridge" is going strong all over. Harry deserves success, as does his hard working staff, headed by the popular Benny Blake.
Hymie Silverman, who for six years conducted the Public Prelection Rooms at 729 Seventh avenue. New York, is now with C. B. Brice. He is a regular fellow, and one that hands the small producer a square deal. Price, by the way, is buying negatives.
Vitagraph is taking things easy at this writing. Tom Terriss is working on a version of "The Heart of Maryland." with Catherine Cnlvert. Directors George Sargent and Mrs. Sidney Drew have finished their pictures with Alice Joyce and Corinne Griffith, respectively.
The Green Room Club, which today is New York's home for the picture nlavor. director or writer, is gaining in populnrity. Anyone .who leaves Los Ansreles can be found at the club, where good fellowship prevails always. Ask some of the Coast members; for instance. Paul Scardon or Hugh Thompson.
"Wild " Bill Haddock starts a feature this week.
Mike Ring is getting over his recent illness. Mike now wants to tackle any comedy they will let him produce. He is making his headquarters the Green Room Club, New York, where they read Camera!
William Scully, who used to be an assistant director at Famous-Players, is now directing a two-reel dramatic company that will film the Poe poems for First National. Louis Stem is prominent in the cast Richard Travers is starred.
Weather conditions in New York and adjacent country the past two months has been very bad. There is no sunshine, even light or anything else. Rain and foggy weather holds the boards. Don't come here for exteriors.
Louis J. O'Connor, the "best cop" in pictures, who makes a specialty of this work for Selznick. Famous. Realart. Metro, Vitagraph and a few more, is going to Los Angeles this winter. So is Harold Forshay, a fine light heavy; Albert Roccardi. the old Vitagrapher of O. Henry Pictures, and a lot more.
Burton King will be in Los Angeles this winter with a contract tucked in his pocket calling for a series of twelve features for Pioneer Pictures Cornoration. This will mean work for many good actors. Burt is completing financial arrangements in New York now. His New York address is the Green Room Club.
