METRO TO INVADE CRUISE MARKET
Mr. James T. Aubrey, president of MGM has announced a plan for diversification that will include a new, 2000 room hotel in Las Vegas, and a fleet of luxury cruise liners slanted at the moderate-priced tourists.
At a press meeting following the annual board meeting, Aubrey commented that the diversification program is the most ambitious undertaking in the company’s long history. The project involves construction of three, 400-cabin cruise ships for a total cost of roughly fifty four million dollars, with an option for two more ships. Preliminary work is slated to commence in June of 1972. The ships will be built in Europe, each of about 200 tons.
S 1.C.E.M. MEETS IN MONTREAL
The International Council for Educational Media held its annual general assembly conference at the NFB headquarters in Montreal recently. The occasion marks the first time that the council has met in North America. Thirty one countries hold membership in the 1.C.E.M. which was organized in 1950. The main function of the

is to promote International exchange of information and experience among professionals working in media and information research, production and distribution. Its particular interest is in the promotion of effective use of media in educational programs.
The annual conference affords prominent figures from educational bodies in Canada, the U.S. and other countries to participate in workshops and presentations featuring new developments in the use of film, videotape, television and other aids to education.
Following the conference, delegates from various countries proceed in groups on a variety of study tours across Canada and the U.S. to observe projects of particular interest. 1.C.E.M. operates
under consultative status from UNESCO. e

and will continue each Tuesday night until the end of March, 1972. Films are in French and English and the public is invited to attend at no charge. Ciné-Participation invites the audience to discuss the films and filmmaking after each showing. Where possible, filmmakers, actors and film authorities attend the showings to join in the discussions, answer questions and exchange views wb the audience.
PARAMOUNT FILMWAYS IN JOINT DEAL
Mr. Robert Evans, Paramount’s Exec. V.P. in charge of production, and Martin Ransohoff, Filmways’ production chief have announced that the two companies will co-produce “SAVE THE TIGER,” starring Jack Lemmon, from an original drama by Steve Shagan. John G. Avildsen will direct.
Shagan will also act as producer, with Edward S. Feldman as Executive Producer. Filming is scheduled for the beginning of February.
The feature is a joint venture of Filmways, Lemmon’s Jalem Productions, and Shagan’s Cirandinha Productions.
