It was said that after living for five hundred years a beautiful bird, upon consuming itself in fire, would rise from his ash remains whole and thus revisited his domain—well we’re certainly not five hundred years old and the rejuvination is not absolute! But. In point of fact we are thirty years old and what ever changes are and will be in effect will largely depend on you—the reader—not the Egyptological fowl. Innovations which are proposed for the Digest will be drawn from the wealth of experience and exposure of our readers, in so far, as material which will be found in a direct source or that of relative copy pertinent to a section of the publication. The innovations are as follows: will feature Guest Editorials and provide the magazine with a healthy cross-section of material concerning the status of the motion picture business. profile—canadian i in the ‘spotlight will feature a biographical article on a Canadian personality—be they producer/ director, actress, actor, distributor or exhibitor. canadian production | notes aside from normal coverage will feature an extensive event for an-up-and-coming Canadian picture. fadeouts—looking back will feature thet memorabilia of our indlstventne evolution of the historical/social aspects. videoviews will feature our cousins the Television Industry. Actually you will not see it in this issue as format has not been completed to date. | must stress once more that these new sections are and will be dependent on you—should you remain apathetic then you will get lots of fillers, mundane blurbs and reems of doodling paper. However, should we Canadians (who have and now are contributing greatly to the pulse beat of the motion picture business) support a source which bespeaks our actions—namely, Canadian Film Digest—then all will benefit. With your help we will be able to provide a representative publication to all concerned. To you, the reader, | offer a comprehensive magazine and the devotion which is vital to its existance. Your comments are welcome and necessary. Incidentally, the tinted glasses on the nose aren’t blinders. Lechael Steen Managing Editor 3
