Over 200 people assembled for the presentation lunch of the 1976 Canadian Film and Television Awards in the Regency Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Toronto, on November 5.
Opening introductions were made by Dick Smith of Kodak Canada Ltd., this year’s Awards chairman. CFTA president Gunther Henning, welcomed everyone and presented the M.C. Gordie Tapp.
No ethnic group or dialect was safe from the sharp eye and ear of this wellknown entertainer! Plagued by intermittent but extremely loud fire bells, Gordie Tapp sailed through jokes and announcements of winners with complete aplomb.

Sales Promotion category and three craft awards for A/frick Film Productions Ltd; /f Wishes Were Horses, Special Jury Award in the Educational & Instructional category, plus two craft awards for /nsight Productions’ co-production with CBC; and Westminster Films Ltd., with To The
Top, took prizes in the Public Relations and Best Overall Film categories and a craft award. Westminster also scored with the best Educational & Instructional film — Lead in Motion.
A lavish montage of photographs of the winners is not possible. After the luncheon, the camera and film was stolen from a locked car! Anyway, here’s a full list of awards.
