MICHAEL TAYLOR TO FAMOUS PLAYERS Mr. George P. Destounis, president and Managing Director of Famous Players Limited, has announced that Michael J. Taylor will join the organization on October 4th as Assistant-Secretary. In this capacity he will be in complete charge of all film settlements for the company. Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Taylor was Director of Booking for Century Theatres Management Limited. CANADIAN FILM DIGEST tf PEOPLE Columbia Ne \ Announces Winners Milt Goodman, Columbia Pictures vice president and general sales manager, today (13) announced the winners in the company’s domestic sales drive. Keyed to the theme, ‘Columbia Is the One In ‘71,” the 14-week event was designated the “Keep the Bandwagon Rolling Sales Drive.” During the competition, branches competed to surpass quotas set for each branch, based on their respective billings and shipments during Columbia’s biggest year. Branches named for the top prizes were New York, which exceeded its quota by 151%, Eugene Margoluis district manager, Jules Rieff, branch manager; St. Louis, Stan Smith branch manager; and Toronto, Harvey Harnick general manager. Cash prizes will be awarded to the managers, sales staffs, bookers and office managers of each branch, Goodman said. BELLEVUE-PATHE APPOINTMENT Mr. Harold Greenberg, President of Bellevue-Pathe Ltd. has announced the appointment of Mr. Yves Garneau as General Manager of Bellevue-Pathe Systems Limited, a newly formed subsidiary company involved in Electronic Video Recording (EVR) distribution throughout Canada. Mr. Garneau graduated from the University of Toronto with his B.A.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering, and was formerly chief of the commercial division, distribution branch of the National Film Board of Canada. DISNEY SELECTS PRETTY DIPLOMATIC AMBASSADOR Walt Disney World’s first official Ambassador, pretty 19-year-old Debby Dane is on a year-long mission to establish new ‘diplomatic’ ties with Disney fans around the world. Part of her itinerary will include ‘state’ visits to governors and mayors throughout the Eastern half of the nation as well as civic groups, social organizations, children’s hospitals, business and cultural centres. She will appear in parades and other community celebrations. A pretty brown-eyed brunette, Debby is a native of Beloit, Wis., but has lived in Florida the past fifteen years. She was Orlando’s Tangerine Bowl Queen in 1969 and became one of the original Walt Disney hostesses when the Vacation Kingdom opened its Preview Centre early last year. In addition to her ‘foreign’ missions, Miss Dane will be official hostess to all of the dignitaries the world over who are expected to visit the Disneyland-style Magic Kingdom theme park in Florida expected to officially open this Fall. FRANK MORRISS QUITS WINNIPEG TRIBUNE Well-known throughout the trade, Frank Morriss, genial Entertainment editor of the Winnipeg Tribune, and a familiar figure in Toronto entertainment circles where he spent several years in a like capacity has announced his retirement, and plans to take it easy for a while, visiting movie theatres for relaxation, no doubt, His successor at the Tribune is Gene Telpner, a favourite with Winnipeg's trade biggies. 105
