114 Statistics During 1970, there were 1,435 motion picture theatres (1,428 in 1969) of which 1,156 were regular motion picture theatres and 279 were drive-in theatres (271 in 1969). Receipts from admissions (excluding taxes) amounted to $128,738,403, an increase of 9.1% over the amount of $118,020,089 reported in 1969. Receipts from regular motion picture theatres accounted for 86.8% of this amount. Amusement taxes increased by 8.3% to $9,228,131 in 1970 from $8,518,554 in 1969. The number of paid admissions was reported at 92,315,452, an increase of 2.3% over last year. Amusement taxes Paid Admissions The 1970 per capita expenditure on motion picture entertainment in Canada was calculated at $6.45, up 7.3% over the $6.01 reported in 1969. The per capita expenditure increased in all provinces except for New Brunswick where it dropped by 3.9% and in the Yukon and Northwest Territories where the drop was 4.6%. Newfoundland accounted for the biggest increase (31.6%) and Saskatchewan reported the smallest (0.8%).
