Organized in January 1977, the objective of the Institute is to help the industry better and more profitably serve the Canadian feature film going public, by improving the quality of product and service in all sectors of the theatrical feature film industry including distribution, exhibition and promotion.
Initial activities will include the organizing of a professional seminar for leading English and French language directors and producers, and the establishment of a data bank for the collection and circulation of information related to the production and financing of feature films in Canada.

Wayne Cunningham Since 1970 the OFA has run an annual Film Showcase in March/April, providing a major marketplace for 16mm non-theatrical films. It is an opportunity for 16mm film producers/distributors to screen new films for public, regional and special collection film librarians, AV co-ordinators, media consultants, educators, film society representatives and personnel from government, business and industrial film agencies — all of whom purchase or recommend the purchase, rental or lease of films.
