The Ontario Arts Council offers various forms of assistance in film areas to artists in the provinces, and the following brochures are available from its offices:
Film and Photography Grants
Filmmakers may apply for up to $7,000 for short, experimental, original 16mm films (full-time students are not eligible). Senior grants up to $20,000 are available to experienced filmmakers. All applications must be supported by a 16mm film.
Writers may apply for up to $3000 to write original, creative material for the screen.
Sponsors of a film festival or seminar may apply for funds to cover fees of visiting filmmakers to participate in workshops and to lead discussion groups, and to cover a portion of administrative costs. Arts/Education Grants
A filmmaker wishing to work in a school is required to conceive the project, find a school and negotiate a fee. The filmmaker and the school make a joint application for a grant of up to three-quarters of the filmmaker’s fee, plus project expenses if the project is more than 100 kilometres from the filmmaker’s home.

The Film Festivals Bureau began its operation on January 8, 1973 with the following mandate: ‘‘to assist in developing more effective methods of film promotion publicity for distribution and exhibition abroad and to assume the co-ordination at film exhibitions in Canada and abroad”. The Bureau annually organizes and co-ordinates the Canadian participation at Cannes as well as in over 100 film festivals. It also provides grants to Canadian Film Festivals. Another function of the Bureau is to certify Canadian films for the Capital Cost Allowance Program and foreign sales purposes.
